interesting enough, the chinese has chosen such an auspicious date.
the numeric '8' represent 'fa' or prosperity.
many concerns have been highlighted in the press, eg. the lock down of internet in china during the games, tibet riots, bomb scare in the northern areas, etc. with all these incidents trying to shift people focus away from the olympic. its really tough for the organisers as staging an international event is never an easy task.(that's why singapore can only host the smaller scale YOG)
lets go thru some facts regards to the games.
the official logo reassemble the pre-historic chinese character.

the chinese citizens are humorous to come up with this comic relief on how the logo came about. although i doubt the IOC will agree to it.
'bird nest' aka the beijing olympic stadium, their answer to our 'durian'[esplanade].
this is the venue for water sports during the games.
the blue luminous facade shine like a gem in the night
along with the olympic games, a few other major construction projects has already embarked in the ancient capital.
the beijing national grand theatre, a huge dome-like structure.
it stood in the middle of a lake, consist of 3 large capacity performance auditoriums.
the still under construction CCTV building is a fine example of how ambitious the chinese are.
i guess the majority of singaporeans will be glue to their television for the next 2 weeks, anticipating team singapore to grab one of those jade medal in the games.
but our government determine to steal the lime light of tonight opening ceremony of the games with...
the whopping 8 million toto!!!
the result will be draw at tonight 9.30pm.
